Byron ShierGraduated from University of Alberta Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine: Department of Occupational Therapy in 1996. He completed Vodder-Foldi Lymphedema training in 1998, and became certified with the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA) in 2002. Byron has presented at several conferences including: the National Lymphedema Network Conference (2000), the Capital Health Wound Care Prevention: Principles and Practice Conference (2003), and Alberta Provincial Breast Cancer Program Retreat (2008). Byron co-authored: The Interdisciplinary Lower Leg assessment form, published in 2006. In 2007, Byron was a guest lecturer offering continuing education training to healthcare professionals in Palliser Health Region, Medicine Hat, Alberta, and Covenant Health Region, Camrose, Alberta. From 2005 to 2009, Byron was a guest lecturer, developing and teaching a credited course on management of Lymphatic conditions at the University of Alberta: Department of Occupational Therapy. In 2003, he founded the Calgary Lymphedema Rehabilitation and Consulting Services, Inc., a Calgary, Alberta-based outpatient clinic that offered the first multidisciplinary, specialized Lymphedema assessment and treatment services in Southern Alberta. Byron also successfully developed and offered a monthly lecture for Tom Baker Cancer Centre's patients and families on Lymphedema management associated with cancer care. The outcomes demonstrated by Calgary Lymphedema Rehabilitation resulted in Tom Baker Cancer Centre and Alberta Health Services launching an internally funded Lymphedema rehabilitation program to serve patients in Calgary and Southern Alberta in 2009. Byron also successfully completed the Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation with Canadian College of Health Leaders in 2011 including submission of an essay titled "Population Health: The need for chronic disease Lymphedema care management in Canada."

Byron is a licensed, practicing Occupational Therapist based in Vancouver, offering community based Lymphedema assessment and management services.
